Application Notes

  • Dually applications may require different u-bolts. Measure stock u-bolts and refer to u-bolt specification chart to order correct u-bolts.
  • Most Super Duty vehicles have a 1.91" tall factory block (measured at block’s rear facing end) and do NOT have top-mounted overload springs; block kit #9016 fits these vehicles. If equipped with 1.91" factory block AND top-mount overloads, OR 3.71" factory block WITHOUT top-mount overloads: either order a block kit # 9116, or set of longer U-bolts (qty. one #11654). If equipped with 3.71" factory block AND top-mount overloads: either order block kit # 9117, or set of longer U-bolts (qty. one #11664).

More Information

The coil spring equipped Super Dutys ride great, and their good driveability can be retained if the truck is lifted correctly.

The truck is very sensitive to caster angle change. As it is lifted, the framemounted radius arms cause the front axle to rotate, resulting in less caster angle. Incorrect caster angle makes the truck more difficult to steer, and the truck’s normal tendency to selfcenter is reduced. Incorrect caster can also induce steering shimmy and a propensity to drift and wander. One more point that emphasizes the importance of correct caster angle and steering geometry in general… as a truck is loaded, by adding cargo or trailer tongue weight, caster is lost as the vehicle’s rear ride height drops. When hauling or towing, driveability is even more important.

2" Replacement Coil Spring and 2.5" Level-It Spacer Systems - We offer two different front lift methods: 2.5" Level-It spacers that install on top of the factory coils or 2" replacement coil springs. Which lift method is right for you? Spacers are the ticket if price is your main concern. Coils are preferred if your truck leans to one side, or if they are fatigued. Superlift’s spring ride height tolerances are much tighter than factory springs; their side-to-side height can vary close to 1". Also, different weight rated Superlift coils are offered for gas and the heavier V-10 and diesel engines.

Longer Superlift shock absorbers should also be installed or the factory shocks will “top-out” prematurely.

Other Considerations - Many people simply install spacers or coils and nothing else, but there are ramifications:

Caster Angle - At 2" to 2.5" of lift, approximately 3-degrees of caster angle is lost, which degrades driveability. To correct caster we offer alignment cam bushings, or our exclusive Caster Brackets. Cam bushings, the least expensive method, install at the upper ball joints. Their “down side” is the resulting axle shaft misalignment, which can significantly reduce outer axle tube seal service life. The Caster Bracket method is more expensive and labor intensive than cam bushings, but they are the best fix.

Track Bar and Compression Travel Control - Unless track bar geometry is corrected, bar bind will induce a slight amount of “yaw and roll", steering wheel kick and premature bar bushing wear. Superlift supplies a new frame-mounted bracket to correct track bar geometry. We restore proper suspension compression travel with brackets to relocate the factory travel-stops. Both of these items are included in one optional box. Again, these components are not required, but they are highly recommended; we sell quite a few of these to truck owners wishing to correct problems with other brand lifts.

If you want to maintain the factory nose-down rake, order our optional rear block kit or add-a-leafs.
