In 1997 Ford scrapped the Twin Traction Beam front axle in favor of torsion bars with upper and lower control arms, similar to what General Motors uses on their 1988 and newer full-size trucks.  When comparing this design to Ford’s old TTB, the primary benefits of torsion bars are an improved ride, a more stable and predictable steering “feel” and less camber change when towing or hauling loads.  When you add it up, the bottom line is considerably improved driveability.
